Our Pick for The Best Blog on RV’ing

A recent article on TripSavvy about the five best RV blogs to follow caught our attention. So we dived right in to discover which blogs we thought our fans would enjoy. Hours and many pages later, we found ourselves still on the first listing: Love Your RV hosted by a Canadian named Ray.

Ray and his wife Anne have been a full-timers for seven years and have logged over 60,000 miles from their home base in Nanaimo, BC, Canada. His monthly blog has 6 sections: Tips & Tricks, Mods & Upgrades, Product Reviews, RV Travel, Boondocking, and of course, About Us. 

Ray offers a free eBook, Tips to the RV Life, as a gift when you sign up. We did! The eBook is beautifully done, well written, and packed with great photos and super useful articles, tips, and suggestions. Fifth Wheel owners will want to read the eBook article on 5th wheel maintenance. Every article was well organized, full of great stuff, and worth reading. 

The home page has a link to an Amazon shopping page that could save time if you’re looking to buy outdoor furniture, sanitation supplies, lighting, and a host of RV wants and needs.

The blog has over 400 posts, so you’ll want to bookmark their site for hours and hours of good reading. In fact, they’ve recently launched a sister site to LoveYourRV.com called RVHappyHour.com, a social community where RVers can meet and mingle online. He calls it a “virtual happy hour”—sort of a sit-around-the-campfire-with-new-friends-and-share -experiences-to-help-each-other-out kind of blog.

Ray comments how social the RV lifestyle is and says that he’s made more friends and connections since they began their RV lives than he made in the previous 20 years. He sounds like a great guy. We checked his travelogue at travellerspoint.com and discovered he’s never stayed at Floridays RV Park. Hopefully, the next time they come through Florida they’ll look us up.

Let’s Go to the Show!

The Tampa Florida RV SuperShow celebrates 34 years of being one of the best RV shows in the country. Last year, over 73,000 attended. The show runs for 6 days beginning on January 15, 2019, at the Florida State Fairground in Tampa. While the first day of the show is reserved for RV businesses and companies only, the public can enjoy everything the show offers for five full days beginning on January 16.

Brought to you by the Florida RV Trade Association, this show attracts more than 450 vendors in the RV trade. Visitors can stroll through two huge exhibit halls full of parts and accessories and towing supplies or pick up tons of literature and information about campgrounds, RV resorts, and tourism to plan your on-the-road adventures in the coming months or years. Whether you are just dreaming about a spanking new RV, or are in the market for an upgrade to the latest in RV manufacturing and accessories, there will be everything from small travel trailers to bus conversion luxury motorhomes.

Music Lovers

Happy Shoppers

On November 18, visit the Stuart Green Market where you’ll find fresh ideas for Christmas giving, and some tasty treats along the way. After the market, head over to the Rock’n Riverwalk free concert from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., then later in the evening, take a stroll through historic downtown Stuart and visit the great shops and restaurants that make up this quaint downtown. Foodies

Another 3rd Saturday Gourmet is November 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. in downtown Hobe Sound. This fun, family, pet-friendly event features about 15 different vendors including unique food trucks from all over south Florida and local crafters. 3rd Saturdays continue in Hobe Sound monthly through May. Event is sponsored by the Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce.

Christmas Elves

If you like getting into the holiday mood early, Christmas on Main Street has music by the Celebration Singers, a performance by the Martin County Tigerettes, and tree lighting festivities in downtown Stuart on November 23 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the City Hall Annex and Riverwalk Stage, 300 SW St. Lucie Ave. Event information »

Parade Watchers

Mark your calendar (Saturday, December 1, 1:00 p.m.) for this must-see annual event—the Hobe Sound Christmas Parade! For 33 years, our hometown has paraded out floats, vintage cars, bands, marchers, trucks, and especially Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. The music and magic of our small town is on display as hundred of townies and visitors line the streets and local shops and restaurants will be open. Parade information »

Campground Tips

recreational-vehicleRVing and camping in general should be relaxing. In fact, many of the rules that Floridays has posted are intended for just that purpose—to promote harmony and understanding. We’re always happy to enhance your stay, and in that vein we found an article that promotes just that.

As Carrie Todd writes in her article, “Top Campground Tips: What to Do and Not Do”…

Rights and responsibilities, privileges and politeness—it seems more difficult than ever for people to get along with each other. This has even become evident when staying in RV parks, where you can often pick your site, but you can’t always pick your neighbors. Although most campgrounds have posted courtesy signs and a set of easy-to-follow rules, there are many aspects that are left up to “common sense” and interpretation, and oftentimes, people just don’t know what to do.

The article (see the full article here) explores Do’s and Don’ts from both safety and etiquette perspectives. Reviewing these should lead to a more pleasant experience, whether here in South Florida or at your favorite spot.

Hobe Sound Incorporation Debate

On August 28, voters in Hobe Sound, the hometown of Floridays RV Park, will decide whether or not to incorporate as an official town. The debate seems to be about different visions for how to move into the future while retaining the unique character of Hobe Sound. For those in our Park that are permanent residents, or just anyone interested in the potential outcome, the following is a little background and a few resources.

Hobe Sound is one of the last truly small towns along the eastern coastline of south Florida. It has a small population of about 15,300 people. People live in Hobe Sound because they enjoy the small town feeling, lack of traffic, low crime, and an “Old Florida” feel. Read about the history of Hobe Sound here.

Floridays MapCurrently, Hobe Sound is not officially a town at all—it’s a community governed by Martin County. Even if Hobe Sound incorporates, most of its services would still be provided by the County, including fire & rescue, law enforcement, and other important services.

In 2017, a few long-time residents and business owners in Hobe Sound became concerned that Hobe Sound could become overdeveloped or lose it’s historic small town environment. They paid, with their own money, to have a Feasibility Report drawn up. You can read it here.

Opponents of the incorporation effort are also vocal. You can read letters of opposition published in the TCPalm News here, and in the Palm Beach Post here.

There have been numerous meetings to debate the plan and answer residents’ questions. If you live in Hobe Sound but never attended a meeting, you can learn more and watch a video about protecting Hobe Sound on their website.
