Amazon Warms Up to RVers

Some prefer to lay back in the shade of an old oak tree growing next to their long-term concrete pad in an RV park with a nice laundry facility, reliable wi-fi and a mail slot in the manager’s office. These are the think-outside-the-box’ers who, when choosing their home’s foundation, chose rubber over concrete and willingly gave up Saturday shopping sprees at Furniture World in exchange for a totally manageable affordable housing alternative. We have a lot of these sensible RVers at Floridays.

We also have the Rvers who prefer driving the open roads in search of RV campgrounds, truck stop bathrooms, acceptable fuel prices, and garbage and waste dump sites. They are from up north, out west, the south, and Canada. Their RV is in response to an irresistible calling to leave family and friends behind in order to experience the world up close and personal, one RV campground after another. We have these adventurous RVers at Floridays too! These are the people who have problems ordering from Amazon.

For this last group, you have options:

  1. Have family forward it to your campground or RV park.
  2. Rent a box at a local UPS store.
  3. Forward to a post office.
  4. Use a professional mail forward service like My RV Mail.

None of the above are ideal but #4 offers the best services—for a price. They scan your letters and packages and upload the images online. You log on to your account and choose to have a piece forwarded or shredded. And, because they accept FedEx shipments, you can shop on Amazon.

But what about those Amazon orders for the rest of us? Use Amazon Locker. Lockers are placed around the U.S. so you choose which Amazon Locker will receive your package and are given a unique pickup code that includes the location address and open hours. The only caveat is that packages are only held for 3 days, so if you order a camp stove while driving through Columbus, Ohio, and have it shipped to Port St. Lucie, Florida, pray that you won’t need a new transmission in Atlanta, Georgia, because you’ll probably miss your pickup window. (By the way, the Amazon Locker in Port St. Lucie, FL is at the Speedway on US Highway 1.)

The Internet-connected RV has changed the landscape of RV ownership and services, making it not just possible, but smart, for retirees and even families to live the lifestyle. And here in Hobe Sound, this remarkable, historic and peaceful remnant of the old Florida with beaches and rivers and wildlife, we look forward to our very own Amazon Locker delivery location. We’ll let you know when it happens.

Amazing Peck Lake

Nearby Floridays RV Park in Hobe Sound, there’s a little piece of heaven called Peck Lake, known only by a few walkers, hikers, and boaters. It’s accessible only by foot or by boat, and it’s a favorite place to go for guests at Floridays.

This is how Rob of the Palm Beach Boating Guide describes it:

At one time this area was an inlet. Sand deposits entirely separated the ocean from the Intracoastal Waterway. This created an anchorage on the Intracoastal side.
Boaters can stop, walk a few hundred feet and enjoy a beautiful ocean side beach. Boats of all sizes anchor in Peck Lake’s sandy bottom. Be careful of shoaling to the south. The best approach is to stay in the Intracoastal until you are directly perpendicular to other anchored boats (or the trail marker that takes you to the beach), then head straight in. Watch out for shallow water! Peck Lake, Florida is a terrific destination, particularly for a day trip from the south. Getting there you will pass the Jupiter Lighthouse, Jupiter Island (the wealthiest place in America), Hobe Sound, and a natural preserve. The manatee zone between Hobe Sound and Peck Lake seems like it goes on forever, but the scenery is beautiful.Source http://www.floridabywater.com/south-east-florida/stuart/day-trips

Trip Advisor names it in the top 8 things to do in Hobe Sound. They point out that access by land is a 5-10 minute walk along a boardwalk over the mangrove swamps and natural vegetation with educational signposts along the way.

Liquid LimoScuba divers and snorkelers will find a reef covered in stony corals and diverse sponges that rises from about 32 feet to about 5 feet at the crest with ledges and caverns, holes and crevices that attract sea turtles, lobster, and reef fish. Divers venturing outside the reef’s crest can find sharks and goliath groupers and strong currents. Visibility can be poor so calm weather is essential with breezes from offshore at high tide. Because of the current, divers should swim into the current and keep track with frequent surface intervals and loop back to the boat. Scuba Stuart offers dive charters.

Floridays RV Park On-site Manager, George Vryhoff, knows Peck Lake like the back of his hand. With his 24’ pontoon boat “Liquid Limo” loaded with guests from the RV park, everyone enjoys a refreshing day on the water at #PeckLake.

Floridays Dreaming–Big 2016 RV Show

We recently returned from the big RV show in Tampa. Good news was everywhere. Show attendance was up 3% over last year, and the number of new RV units is expected to reach over 375,000 in 2016. In fact, according the the FRVTA, the forecast doubles the industry’s 2009 recession low. The good news for us is that more companies are bringing more products and innovation to the RV market. The new models are chock-full of good stuff and great ideas. Here’s a small glimpse for the dreamers at Floridays…

We couldn’t bring the show home with us, but we were able to locate an inside tour of the 2016 Airstream International Serenity 30W travel trailer. Try not to drool on your keyboard.

If you prefer traditional luxury and more space, take a tour of the 2016 Itasca Ellipse 42HD Class A Luxury Diesel Motorhome.

At the end of the day, our favorite RVs are the ones occupying the spaces at Floridays RV Park right here in Hobe Sound.

New Look in a Digital World

When we purchased Floridays in 2010 it was called Angle Inn Mobile Court, and probably a few worse names by our South Florida neighbors. We did two things right away. We changed the name to Floridays RV Park and we got rid of guests who refused to share our vision of a clean, friendly, safe, and highly livable RV park.

Now, almost five years later and confident that we can brag about our little piece of paradise in Hobe Sound, we’re happy to announce a new website and a new way to communicate with our guests, both current and past—and hopefully our future guests as well.

Because in Martin County we live in such a diverse and interesting geographical area, and because the history of the Treasure Coast has such intrigue, we’ll share some of that with you. We’ll also keep you updated on anything going on at the park that you should know, like how we’re doing with our continuing landscaping projects and any routine maintenance schedules.

This season we plan some special community activities: a cornhole competition, cookouts, and more.

We encourage you to visit our website and share our news with your RV-loving friends. This is your community. You can help us fill it with like-minded folks like you, season after season.

As always, if there is anything George or I can do to make your stay at Floridays better, please call or email us anytime.
